Why am I, a Law of Attraction writer and coach, blogging for a whole month about great ideas? It’s very simple really. The Law of Attraction is all about creation. Creation, by its very definition. requires creativity. Ideas are the product of creativity and the impetus for creation.
If you want to create the life of your dreams, you have to have ideas about what that actually is. The better the ideas, the better the resulting creation.
Let me lay it out. We are creative beings. In fact, we are constantly creating our reality. You might say that’s our whole purpose in choosing to come here and experience the joy and adventure of being human.
As we travel through our lives, the experiences we gather, good and bad, initiate the desire for other experiences, different experiences. As a result of our experience, we come up with new ideas about what we want to manifest in our lives.
Dull ideas lead to dull experiences being brought into reality. Good ideas lead to better experiences. Great ideas lead to great experiences, more excitement, more creativity, more fulfilled lives. Therefore, it follows that if you want to have a great life, you need to have some great ideas about what you want in that life and how you want to live it.
I’ll give you an example. Suppose your big idea, your motivating force in your life is to have enough money to pay your bills. Let’s say that you state that in a positive way, “I want enough money to pay my bills”. That’s a good start compared to, “I don’t want to be in debt” because as you’ve probably already realized, that’s a sure way to be in debt. And let’s say you are good at holding the thought, taking action and receiving.
You find a J.O.B. (that means Just Over Broke) and go to work every day, do your job and collect your pay cheque. Nothing wrong with that, if your goal is to make enough money to pay your bills. You’re doing exactly what you need to do and you have enough money to pay your bills. You don’t have any money for extras, but you pay your bills. You are getting what you asked for, which is always the way it plays out.
Now it’s not my life or my place to judge, but it sounds like you’re playing small to me. Dull goal, dull idea and dull life.
Now let’s say that you decided that you want more! You need to come up with a better goal—a better idea. That could be anything because we all have different ideas about what is desirable and that’s a very good thing.
Let’s pretend that you want to now have enough money to take a great vacation every year. So you now state that in a positive way, “I want to have enough money to take a great vacation every year.” Then, to activate Future Pull, you start to daydream about what that would be—a cruise, a safari, a kayaking trip to the Baja. You refine your goal and you hold that vision and take action and welcome it in. You’re going to start to see that new idea manifest and before you know it, you’ll be relaxing on a cruise, watching lions and buffalo fight in Africa, or fighting off Humboldt squids from your kayak in the Baja. Much more exciting. More exciting ideas lead to more exciting lives.
There’s nothing wrong with a ‘starter dream’—something small and believable for you. In fact, as you expand your vision, you need to move from where you are to where you believe you can be incrementally. If you go from ‘pay my bills’ to ‘be one of the richest people in the world’ in one giant leap, there’s a pretty good chance that you won’t really believe it and you won’t be able to hold that vision. If you can’t hold the vision, you can’t manifest it and then, when it doesn’t happen, you’ll say, “I knew that Law of Attraction stuff wouldn’t work.”
Success breeds success. Start with a good idea and when you bring that to life, you will create and, most importantly, BELIEVE that you can bring to life something even bigger and better.
So why am I focusing on great ideas for a whole month? Because here’s the rub: some people get stuck in the ‘little dream’ hole. They forget how to dream big. They subdue their natural creative ability so that they can’t even come up with great ideas, let alone bring them to life.
Some people don’t even have their own ideas. They’ve just attached themselves to the ideas, the dreams, of their parents, partners, or friends. They don’t break loose and let themselves dream and come up with great ideas of their own. They live lives dreamed up by other people. Perhaps those are the people Henry David Thoreau was speaking of when he said,
“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”
So practice coming up with new and different ideas for how you’d like to live your life. Use your creative spirit and create some idealings. Sit on them for a while. Incubate them. Let them grow into full-blown ideas that are truly yours and are truly believed in. Hold the vision of those ideas about how your dream life will evolve and when they hatch and become reality, you’ll be ready to fully immerse yourself in the life you have created.
From idea to reality, that’s what the Law of Attraction is about and that’s why I’m writing about great ideas all month.
